Where we work

Where we work in Tracy.

Tracy is a city of about 100,136 people in San Joaquin County. Around 81.1 percent of homes are detached houses and the median home was built in 1995, so most of what we see is a full-size kitchen and a garage or side-yard laundry. We run Central Valley as one dispatch area, and Tracy sits inside it with 5 delivery ZIP codes. One technician group covers all of Tracy; the ZIP codes below are the delivery areas we serve.

Tracy questions

What people here ask us first.

It depends on whose warranty and how old the appliance is. A manufacturer's warranty on a new major appliance almost always covers both parts and labor for the first year. After that, many manufacturers continue to cover specific expensive components, most commonly the refrigerator's sealed system or compressor, for several more years, but parts only. The part is supplied free and the labor to fit it is yours to pay. Read the warranty booklet for the phrase "parts only" and the component list it applies to, because that is where people are surprised.

Extended warranties and service contracts generally include labor, subject to a deductible or service fee per claim and a list of exclusions. Home warranty plans include labor too, but you pay a fee per visit and the plan chooses the contractor.

Our own warranty on a repair we perform covers both the part and the labor for the repair we did. If the same fault comes back within the warranty term, we return and put it right without a new diagnostic fee. That is the difference between a warranty on the appliance and a warranty on the repair, and on an appliance past its first year, the repair warranty is usually the one that matters.

For built-in and column freezers the answer is nearly always yes, and it is worth understanding why. A freezer column or an integrated unit from Sub-Zero, Thermador, Miele or a similar maker is not a freestanding box you can swap on a Saturday. It sits inside cabinetry that was built to its exact dimensions, often with a custom panel on the door, and replacing it means an appliance with a four or five figure price plus a carpenter to make the new one fit. Against that, even the most expensive repair, a compressor or a sealed-system leak, is a fraction of the cost, and these units are engineered with parts availability and a twenty-year service life in mind. A fan, a control board, a gasket or a defrost component on a built-in is not a question at all.

Garage-ready and commercial-style freezers sit in the same category for a different reason: they are built heavier than the consumer units and are usually worth the sealed-system repair that would not make sense on a cheap chest freezer.

The one caution is who does the work. Built-in refrigeration is its own discipline, with brand-specific diagnostics and parts, and a technician who works on the platform will get it right the first time where a generalist may not. Ask before you book. Our diagnostic visit on these units is the same flat fee as any other, and it comes off the repair.
